Trouble Free Operation

Gorman-Rupp Super T and Ultra V Series pumps are designed for trouble free operation. They have a simple, but extremely reliable priming system, and have maintenance features that impact “up-time”. Operators can adjust internal clearances in minutes without having to open pumps or remove them from service, and when maintenance is required, simple hand tools will do the job.

The shaft and bearings are also well proteced by a double lip seal and atmospheric vent, and mechanical seals are double-floating, self-aligning cartridge type, with very hard silicon carbide faces.

Superior Solids Handling

Gorman-Rupp’s range of wastewater pumps have been handling tough industrial and municipal applications since 1963, and the latest Super T and Ultra V versions have taken solids handling to the limit. “Standard” pumps will handle a 76mm sperical [cricket ball size] solid, and are equipped with lightweight [under 10kg] inspection covers to make it easy and safe for operators to access pump internals.

When stringy and clog-prone solids like wet-wipes, bailing twine, feathers and rope find their way into wastewater streams, Gorman-Rupp has developed “Eradicator®” and “Eradicator Plus™” technologies to cope with these tough solids.

Surface Mounted Safety

Gorman-Rupp wasewater pumps have plenty of safety features built into them, but the main one is their ability to self-prime from as high as 7.6 metres obove the water level. This allows asset owners to mount them at surface level [not in the wastewater], without the need to ever open safety grills.

This means operators are not exposed to working at heights, working over water or working with cranes or heavy swinging weights.

What Are Wastewater Pumps?

Wastewater pumps are pumps used for transporting wastewater from one place to another. Generally, they pump wastewater from a collection pit to a treatment plant, where solids might be separated, pH balanced, fats and oils separated etc.

The wastewater pump is expected to be capable of transporting this pumped media. This could be raw sewage from a sewage collection pit, or industrial wastewater from an abattoir, food process plant, or from any manufacturing plant that cleans floors, machinery, walls etc, and expects foreign material to find its way into the pit. Pumps are expected to pump rags, rope, socks, wet wipes, gloves, and anything else that finds its way into these pits.

Many types of pumps are used here, including helical rotor pumps and submersible centrifugal pumps, but self-priming centrifugal trash pumps are the safest and easiest to maintain.

Commercial Wastewater Pump Solutions

Pumping raw sewage is not an easy job for a wastewater pump, and working in the wastewater pumping environment is not easy or safe for the operators involved. Selecting the best wastewater pump needs careful consideration.

Different styles of wastewater pumps are applied to the pumping of raw sewage and industrial wastewater, with the most common being the submersible pump. There are numerous brands and several good quality manufacturers of submersible pumps, but all have basically the same set-up. They are suspended [lowered and raised] by rated lifting chains and are set on guide rails to enable them to engage with a permanently installed discharge bend inside the wet well. They therefore spend all of their time immersed in raw sewage or industrial wastewater.

The submersible style of sewage pumps has been the industry standard for several decades. But as the cost of implementing safety systems and controls increases, considerations for more sustainable long-term solutions are being sought. Solutions that offer not only more reliable pumping capabilities with longer-lasting parts, but are additionally much safer to troubleshoot and maintain.

Gorman-Rupp self-priming wastewater pumps are mounted at ground level, so do not have guide rails or discharge bends [that need repair or replacement periodically] in the wet well. They also do not need rated lifting chains to remove them from service when a repair is needed. In fact, they don’t need to be removed from service at all, as all repairs can be done safely at the surface, by one operator, while the pump remains connected to the pipe system.

Not only the pumps are easy to access in an above-ground Gorman-Rupp wastewater pump station. The valves are usually accessed at chest or waist height compared to being underground in a valve vault.

Self-priming pumps make an excellent long-term, safer solution for not only pumping of wastewater, but also make excellent, efficient and safe effluent and water transfer pumps.
