100 Roto-Prime Pumps selected for reliability and smoother operations at Manila Wharf
The main oil storage wharf in Manila has approximately 100 pumps, used for filling road tankers directly from the bulk storage tanks.
The tanker trucks pull in and use a 4” hose for their required fuel.
There are 8 bays. Each truck takes about 20 minutes to fill. The pumps operate 24/7, 3 trucks per hour x 8 bays x 24 hours = more than 500 trucks per day.
As the bulk storage tanks drop to a low level, they switch across to another tank. Sometimes, this can let air into the suction lines. If a pump loses prime, the driver has to contact the operations team, maintenance attends to assess the inlet valves, bleed the line and re-prime the pump. This is a hugely time-consuming procedure and results in a queue of trucks about 500m down the street.
To stop this issue from occurring, Gorman-Rup Roto-Prime were selected 100% for the reliability of operation. If air gets in, it’s just expelled and the truck driver wouldn’t even know that it happened and took a minute longer to fill his truck.
Manila Wharf is running smoother than ever with truck congestion problems solved.
