The Gorman-Rupp ES Auto-start above ground sewage pump station operates like a typical duplex pump station, with two electrically driven sewage pumps, operating in the “duty/standby” configuration. It has one major difference. A built-in combustion engine to drive one of the pumps in the station in the event of a power outage. It is a fully customizable, pre-engineered package that comes to site with only power and piping connection required.

Advantages include:

  • Lower civil costs/ engineering
  • Lower operational costs (above-ground = easy to access)
  • Greatly reduced WH&S issues (No confined spaces entry, use of cranes or open wet wells)
  • No mechanical equipment in the wet well
  • With air-bubbler level controls, no electrical equipment in the wet well
  • Controls can be mounted in the station or mounted beside it
  • Controls can be Gorman-Rupp or owner specified
  • 5-Year warranty on every component in the packaged station.

Pumps And Valves
Stations are equipped with two Super T Series® [T3, T4, T6, T8 or T10] or two Ultra V Series® [V3A, V3B, V4, V6, VS3, VS4 or VS6] self-priming centrifugal pumps. Pumps with 100mm suction and larger, can pass a 76mm spherical solid, and can also be provided with “Eradicator” technology to minimize blockages by stringy materials such as rags, wet wipes, matted hair etc.

The station comes equipped with all necessary valves and interconnecting piping.

The “Auto-start” System
Auto-start pump stations are supplied with two electric motor driven pumps, and operates the same as any alternating pump system. The big difference is that one of the pumps is linked [via a centrifugal clutch] to a combustion engine that automatically operates one of the pumps during a power outage.

If the power goes down, the station automatically switches to a 12V control system that operates from a battery that is continually charged when mains power is available.

Controls for this specialised package need to be part of the total package by Gorman-Rupp. Gorman-Rupp builds the controls to match site-requirements, but includes all of the “lock-out” type safety systems needed. Starters can be DOL, soft starters or VFD control, and have a proprietary [InteGRinex™] liquid level control with air bubbler system.

The compact footprint of the Auto-start pump station allows it to be installed into relatively small purpose-built housings. These could be acoustically rated steel [Colorbond®], brick, concrete or even timber shelters.

Each pump is tested individually to meet customer requirements. After the station is assembled with its piping and valves, the station is tested as a package to site conditions to ensure every component [pumps, valves, controls] delivers the required performance, ensuring that the pump station that leaves the factory will deliver what is needed on site.
