Hydro Innovations has just opened a new Training Centre, called the Hydro Innovations Pump Institute, to assist their customers in the selection, troubleshooting and maintenance of centrifugal pumps. The centre will focus most attention on self priming pumps, but aspects of the curricula offered will include standard centrifugal pumps and submersible pumps.
The Institute covers two floors, and houses a variety of training assets. The main “attraction” is a full size functioning sewage pump station on the first floor, with suction lines going down into a clear wet well system on the ground floor, demonstrating the self priming pump process very clearly through clear acrylic suction lines. Other training assets include a glass faced pump and a full-size “tear-down” pump.
The glass faced pump is a full size sewage pump with a glass front. This allows observers to see the inside workings of a centrifugal pump, and is capable of demonstrating a raft of troubleshooting scenarios, including air binding, pipe blockages, and many others.
The “tear-down” centrifugal pump enables training for operators and fitters on disassembly and reassembly of a centrifugal pump, including tips on seal and bearing installation, setting sewage pump clearances, and other key elements in repair and maintenance procedures.
The Hydro Innovations team hope that this element of operator training, along with gauge reading and troubleshooting training will help keep pumping assets at their efficient best for long and trouble free time.
Achieving Excellence Through Effective Training Solutions
The aim of the Hydro Innovations Pump Institute is to increase organisational effectiveness in selecting and applying the right sewage pump for each application with our hydraulics and design programs, and also to be able to get the most from equipment investment through our troubleshooting and maintenance training programs.
For any organisation to maintain its viability in a highly competitive market, solid training programs are essential. Hydro Innovations understands this and recognises that engineers need to know about the latest technologies and application solutions, and maintenance teams need to be able to read centrifugal pump curves, troubleshoot problems and use leading practices to maximise equipment service life.
When you need training for an entire team, a private on-site consultation or program is a great solution. Our team can come to you to deliver a curriculum tailored to your specific needs. As these sessions can vary substantially in content and training asset requirements, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Tuned to Meet Specific Needs
As we work with customers of various sizes and disciplines, Hydro Innovations are able to discuss training options and tailor programs to suit the needs of each individual organisation.
The vision of the Hydro Innovations Pump Institute is to continuously improve the sewage pump knowledge base of our customers so that they end up with the right pump solutions for their various applications and are able to keep their pumps in Australia at peak operational efficiency for decades of effective pumping.
With a variety of hydraulic training assets and tools at our disposal, the Hydro Innovations Pump Institute offers a variety of educational programs at Rydalmere, NSW along with inexpensive travel packages to enable customers and engineering firms to participate.

“Hydro Innovations helped us solve some safety issues connected with the operation of the submersible wastewater pumps we had. We now have Gorman-Rupp self priming wastewater pumps in that application and our safety issues have been substantially reduced. We have no hesitation in endorsing Hydro Innovations.”
Chris Schumacher, Director of Works & Engineering Oberon Council
“It’s great to see that there are still suppliers out there who will stand behind their products and let you trial them before buying. If Hydro Innovations hadn’t let me trial the pump I doubt I would have bought it upfront because I have been burnt so many times before. After all my negative experiences, the Gorman-Rupp T2A3-B self priming wastewater pump is far more than I hoped for.”
Mat Collier, Principal Partner and Manager of Midwest Piggery
“Another big plus with the Gorman-Rupp pump is that if you do get a malfunction occurring in the motor you can just replace the motor. This isn’t possible with a submersible pump. If there is a motor problem you have to change the entire pump. As an engineer I grew up on submersible pumps but having now been exposed to an above ground centrifugal pump I’d say they have a lot to offer and should be seriously considered as a pump option in a wastewater treatment plant.”
Adrian Harper, Senior Engineer Wastewater Treatment Group, Moe Wastewater Treatment Plant, Gippsland Water
“Bundaberg Regional Council are using Gorman-Rupp ultra VS3A60-B wastewater pumps in our vacuum sewer stations. Gorman-Rupp pumps have always provided reliable, dependable service at a competitive price. They are a very professional company to deal with, they know their stuff and are willing to back their product. Based on our experience we have no hesitation selecting or recommending Gorman-Rupp pumps.”
Kevin Harris, Bundaberg Regional Council Technician
“Inghams Enterprises Pty Ltd have used Gorman-Rupp pumps for over 20 years. Gorman-Rupp submersible pumps have provided reliable, dependable wastewater pumping service for our waste treatment processing plants in this time. Based on this experience we had no hesitation selecting Gorman-Rupp pumps for a new trade waste treatment plant at one of our NSW plants.”
David Jessup – Group Executive General Manager, Inghams Enterprises Pty Ltd.
“Choosing to partner with Hydro Innovations was the right decision. They grasped what was required immediately, have a very good understanding of their products and their backup service has been excellent.”
Grahame Dunstan, Co-ordinator for Wastewater Services for Cairns Regional Council
