Wastewater pump stations
Wastewater pump stations play a key role in wastewater management. By pumping waste to a higher elevation, pump stations reduce the distance that wastewater has to travel, so that gravity can transport it to the wastewater treatment facility.
When selecting a pump station, initial cost is not the only thing to take into account. The cost of the entire life cycle must be considered, which looks at various factors including: Initial cost (purchase price), Installation costs (ground and civil work), Energy Costs (running costs of pump station over lifespan), Operation/Maintenance and repair.
This is why it is imperative to select the right pump to do the job as well as keeping the total life cycle cost at minimum. Proper maintenance will ensure that emergency callouts are kept to a minimum (saving on labour costs).

Gorman-Rupp’s Ultra V Series
Gorman-Rupp has had a major impact on the industrial pumping industry since it was founded in 1933. Today, Gorman-Rupp’s self-priming pumps are perfect for handling waste from many industrial and municipal applications including, domestic sewage pump stations, steel and paper mills, mining operations, food processing plants, power plants, automotive factories, tanneries, wineries and more.
The Gorman-Rupp Ultra V series pump is a perfect example of a cost-effective way to pump wastewater in these applications.
The pump can reduce total lifecycle costs of sewerage pumping stations by up to 40%. It is one of the benefits of owning a Gorman-Rupp pump. A lower total cost of ownership (TCO) is achieved by easy, simple maintenance and high machine reliability. Spare parts are also convenient and inexpensive to replace.
Besides lower costs, the Ultra V series keeps maintenance personnel out of the sump, providing them with a safer working environment and better sanitation. This pump is installed above ground level, so no need for entering a sump.
These pumps are designed specifically to provide a long, low-maintenance service life and to deliver high performance, a high head, and high efficiency.

Some features include;
– Up to three times greater pressure than standard pumps
– up to 60% higher flow rate
– Self-cleaning features
– removable external suction check valve
– handles solids efficiently
– Much more
Built upon the foundation of the Super T Series, Ultra V Series pumps push against fluid-retaining solids and debris that can clog or damage traditional trash pumps.

The Gorman-Rupp ES Auto-Start sewage pump stations are the same as any other self priming pump station, except they have an auxiliary combustion engine to drive one or more of the pumps in times of power outage. They are pre-engineered and factory tested packaged units with one, two or more pumps. The motors, auxiliary engine/s, all the valves, interconnecting piping etc are all supplied as a package, inclusive of state-of-the-art purpose built controls and liquid level control systems.
The pumps in the station can either be Gorman-Rupp’s Super T or Ultra V Series pumps. Flows to 250 l/s for a single pump can be achieved, and this can be expanded when using self priming pumps, because only the suction line needs to be in the wet well [not whole pumps], so that 3 or more pumps can be utilised to deliver peak efficiencies when pumping ADWF [average dry weather flow] right through to peak wet weather flows. A variety of enclosures are available to house the pumping equipment.
Advantages include:
- Lower civil costs/ engineering
- Pump stations are fully equipped and ready to “plug and play”
- Lower operational costs
- Greatly reduced OH&S issues
- Easy access for monitoring or service
- Intuitive control system
- New advanced-level control system keeps electrical equipment out of the wet well
- Able to solve many application problems, including those with steep system head curves
- All components within Gorman-Rupp packaged pump stations are warranted for 5 years
- Can work with the revolutionary Self Cleaning Sump (SCS) for a complete sustainable system

The Gorman-Rupp ES 200×200 is a low profile packaged pump station with a specially designed fibreglass enclosure that is perfectly adapted to house all of the mechanical and electrical equipment for the complete station. The (two) sewage pumps in the station can either be Gorman-Rupp’s Super T or Ultra V Series sewage pumps.
The interior layout of the enclosures is designed to facilitate any service work that needs to be done on the sewape pumps or valves. Flows to 75 l/s for a single pump can be achieved, while the station sits on a footprint of 2.1m x 2.1m.
Advantages include:
- Lower civil costs/ engineering
- Stations are fully equipped and ready to “plug and play”
- Lower operational costs
- Greatly reduced OH&S issues
- Easy access for monitoring or service
- Intuitive control system
- New advanced level control system keeps electrical equipment out of the wet well
- Specially developed acoustic system keeps noise down to a whisper (43 dB(A) at 1.0m)
- Available with several different external appearance options
- All components within Gorman-Rupp packaged pump stations are warranted for 5 years
- Can work with the revolutionary Self Cleaning Sump (SCS) for a complete sustainable system
